Altitude runs courses to help educate Grindelwald’s skiers and snowboarders about how to minimize the risks while skiing off piste in Grindelwald. This half day course includes: how to asses risks, emergency procedures, understanding the snowpack, and how to effectively use avalanche equipment.

This course is an essential introduction for anyone who is keen to go into an off piste environment. You will find a new respect for the mountain and these foundations will help you to continue to stay safe whilst having fun in the mountains.

For this course you need to have the following equipment: transceiver, shovel, probe and backpack in addition to your normal ski or snowboarding gear.

The course starts inside where we look at factors that influence the likelihood of an avalanche and the consequences. On the mountain we look at the practical aspects of how to avoid avalanches and use of the emergency equipment in the worst case scenario. Make sure you dress warmly for this course.

This course can be run for anyone of intermediate standard (Level 4) to experts (Level 7). Click here to check your Level.

Times and Prices

This is a 3 hour clinic and can be run at any time either as a group or for private individuals:

Cost as a clinic (min 3 persons) CHF 125.-
Cost as a private 3 hours CHF 300.-
